RDBPROD: Why is a database updated via rollforward of AIJs smaller than the original database?
(Doc ID 859880.1)
Last updated on APRIL 16, 2024
Applies to:
Oracle Rdb Server on OpenVMS - Version 6.0 and laterHP OpenVMS Itanium
HP OpenVMS Alpha
HP OpenVMS VAX
Goal
At a point in time, a production database was backed up then restored to a second system. The database copy was updated daily by manually applying the AIJs from the production database, making it effectively a standby database. Following an accidental update of the standby copy, it was necessary to recreate the copy by restoring the current production database. This new standby copy is much larger than the original copy.
The original standby copy had all the same data, kept current by rolling forward the AIJs. Why is the new copy larger?
Is it possible to reduce the size of the copy while restoring it?
