ORA-31603 Executing DBMS_METADATA.GET_DDL Or ORA-39166 On DataPump Import (Doc ID 863845.1)

Symptoms

Trying to extract DDL on table using DBMS_METADATA.GET_DDL gives errors:

SELECT DBMS_METADATA.GET_DDL ('TABLE', 'DATA_TABLES', 'SCOTT') from dual;

ORA-31603: object "DATA_TABLES" of type TABLE not found in schema "SCOTT"
ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_SYS_ERROR", line 105
ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_METADATA", line 2805
ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_METADATA", line 4333
ORA-06512: at line 1

Or, DataPump import may give errors as follows:

ORA-39166: Object DATA_TABLES was not found

and after the import there are tables missing on target database. The tables involved have CDC tables placed on them.
