RAC on Windows: How to Check That the Orafence Driver Was Correctly Updated After Applying a Patchset

(Doc ID 876374.1)

Last updated on APRIL 16, 2017

Applies to:

Oracle Server - Enterprise Edition - Version: 10.2.0.4 to 10.2.0.4 - Release: 10.2 to 10.2
Microsoft Windows (32-bit)
Microsoft Windows x64 (64-bit)
Microsoft Windows

Goal

In the README of the Windows patchsets you find a step to patch the orafence driver:

"Stop Oracle Service OraFenceService, and take a backup of file orafencedrv.sys located under %s_systemDirectory%/drivers, replace it with the one supplied in the patch under..."

Sometimes this step is missed during the patch apply. To run with an old version of the driver might result in node evictions and system instability. If you experience this you should check that your orafence driver is the one that you should be run with your patch level.
