Oracle 10g Client Connecting To Oracle 11g Database Gets ORA-01017 invalid username/password (Doc ID 888432.1)

When user accounts are created with an expired password on a recently upgraded database that went from 10gR2 to 11g, we have the following issue connecting through SQLPlus :

1) The user opens SQLPLUS and enters their username, password, and the host string

2) The password change window appears. The user enters their old password, the new password, and retypes the new password.

3) The user then receives an ORA-01017 invalid username/password. Login denied password unchanged.


An upgrade of the Database to 11g.
