"ORA-15055: Unable to Connect to ASM Instance" Error When Starting an Instance (Doc ID 889137.1)

Symptoms

Trying to start an instance that has spfile in the ASM gives the following error:

 

 

 

Similar error is expected when instance is trying to reach ASM to get control files or datafiles even if the database is using init.ora instead of spfile in ASM.   The ORA-15055 error occurs when the instance tries to connect to ASM for the first time.

Changes

Change of the permission of the oracle binary in the ASM_HOME/bin directory.
