How to Install CRS and RAC with Infiniband HCAs and RDS Protocol (Doc ID 943025.1)

Last updated on AUGUST 26, 2011

Applies to:

Oracle Server - Enterprise Edition - Version: 10.2.0.4 to 11.1.0.7 - Release: 10.2 to 11.1
Generic Linux

Goal

This document describes the specific steps to install Oracle clusterware and RAC utilizing Infiniband for the interconnect with Reliable Datagram Sockets (RDS) protocol.

Reliable Datagram Sockets (RDS) protocol provides reliable datagram services multiplexing UDP packets over Infiniband connection improving performance to Oracle RAC. It provides high performance cluster interconnect for Oracle RAC, utilizing Infiniband which has 10X to 30X bandwidth advantage and 10X to 30X latency reduction vs. Gigabit Ethernet. Another option is the use of IPOIB (IP over Infiniband) that provides significant improved performance over Ethernet but can not compete with the RDS protocol.

The document only describes the steps that are different from an install with Gigabyte Ethernet cards using UDP. For complete Installation instructions we recommend <> that contains the RAC Starter Kit and Best Practices for Linux. Here you find as well links to Install cookbooks in section: 'RAC on Linux Step by Step Installation Instructions'.
