On a RAC database that has DISM enabled (SGA_MAX_SIZE set) one of the instances might crash with the following kind of errors:

One case:

ORA-00340: IO error processing online log 1 of thread 1
ORA-00345: redo log write error block 167445 count 11
ORA-00312: online log 1 thread 1: '<datafile name>'
ORA-27070: async read/write failed
SVR4 Error: 12: Not enough space
Additional information: 1
Additional information: 167445
LGWR: terminating instance due to error 340

Another case:

ORA-27091: unable to queue I/O
ORA-27072: File I/O error
SVR4 Error: 12: Not enough space
Additional information: 4
Additional information: 342826512
Additional information: -1
ORA-1115: IO error reading block from file 62 (block # 178905)
ORA-1110: data file 62: '<datafile name>'
ORA-27070: async read/write failed

We are only discussing the case where SGA_MAX_SIZE  is set to a value bigger than SGA_TARGET. This means that DISM is enabled.
