Symptoms

When attempting to connect to a database via 10.2 SQL*NET, the connection fails with ORA-1034 and ORA-27123 errors.


Example:

      $ sqlplus < dbuser >/< password >@ < DB_SID > 

      SQL*Plus: Release 10.2.0.2.0 - Production on Wed Oct 21 10:57:04 2009

      Copyright (c) 1982, 2005, Oracle. All Rights Reserved.

      ERROR:
      ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
      ORA-27123: unable to attach to shared memory segment
      %SYSTEM-W-NOSUCHSEC, no such (global) section

 

The instance PROD3 is up and can be accessed via a bequeath connection. Only SQL*NET connections are failing with the above errors.
