Symptoms

After applying 11i.ATG_PF.H.delta.7 <patch 6241631> you may receive the following error:

500 internal server error" on AppsLogin or AppsLocalLogin.jsp

The error detail is:

Exception:
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: oracle.apps.fnd.profiles.Profiles (initialization failure)

You may also experience a similar issue after applying patches 7437603 or 7527878. Note patch 7527878 is shipped with RUP7.

In some cases the problem may manifest as errors when running certain java concurrent programs. The error look similar to:

oracle.ias.cache.CacheInternal exceptionLog
SEVERE:
Throwable occurred: java.nio.channels.OverlappingFileLockException
at sun.nio.ch.FileChannelImpl$SharedFileLockTable.checkList(FileChannelImpl.java:1191)
at sun.nio.ch.FileChannelImpl$SharedFileLockTable.add(FileChannelImpl.java:1093)
at sun.nio.ch.FileChannelImpl.tryLock(FileChannelImpl.java:899)

Furthermore, you may be unable to start jserv services when the number of JVM's is greater than 1..see <note 748191.1> for more details. This will not result in the above errors but the solution is the same.

Changes

You may have applied <Patch 7527878> which introduces a different mechanism for file locking. You may have increased the number of JVM's or you may have installed a new version of JDK.
