Java Consuming 100% Of CPU On AIX Trying To Access /tmp/.com_ibm_tools_attach/_notifier (Doc ID 1075916.1)

Symptoms

Topass shows java processes consuming 100% of cpu, even when there is no activity in Application.

Java thread dumps (kill -3) output will show the "Attach handler" thread constantly running.

The truss output of the java process will should it running in loop, trying to open / create the file /tmp/.com_ibm_tools_attach/_notifier, and failing with access error, like:

statx("/tmp/.com_ibm_tools_attach/_notifier", 0x32C6EE68, 128, 010) Err#2 ENOENT
open("/tmp/.com_ibm_tools_attach/_notifier", O_WRONLY|O_CREAT|O_EXCL|O_LARGEFILE, S_IRUSR|S_IWUSR|S_IRGRP|S_IROTH) Err#13 EACCES


Changes

JDK was upgraded
In this particular case, the new version was

Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build pap3260sr7-20091215_02(SR7))
IBM J9 VM (build 2.4, JRE 1.6.0 IBM J9 2.4 AIX ppc-32 jvmap3260sr7-20091214_49398 (JIT enabled, AOT enabled)

At this time, it is not known all the versions affected.
