How To Expire Instances in Install Base Following RMA and Disassembly in WIP (Doc ID 1153273.1)

Last updated on DECEMBER 04, 2019

Applies to:

Oracle Installed Base - Version and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

The aim of this document is to provide steps to ensure that Install Base correctly reflects the status of item instances following the return and disassembly of an assembly item with a configured BOM in WIP.

In the following scenario, items A, B and C are serial controlled 'At Receipt' or 'Pre-Defined'

If the items were serial controlled 'At sales order issue' or not serial controlled at all they would already be expired after the RMA is processed.

The scenario is:

1. Create new standard WIP job on an Assembly item with configured BOM

  A      -> Assembly
  |_ B   -> Component
  |_ C   -> Component

2. WIP completion (for A) and WIP component issue (for B & C)
3. Item A is sold to customer via ship confirmed sales order
4. Item A is returned by customer via RMA

After the RMA of Item A to inventory the situation is as below:

In Oracle Inventory: A is in inventory on hand
In Oracle Installed Base: A
Are all at inventory location

Ownership is changed or not changed based on the Install Base Transaction Subtype attached to the RMA order line
