Business Rule Sets UDA To Blank Or $$FG- If Copy Function Generated Item Number (Doc ID 1293098.1)

Last updated on OCTOBER 08, 2019

Applies to:

Oracle Product Hub - Version 12.1.2 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

On creating an item with a function generated item number, a User Defined Attribute (UDA) is not getting populated by an assignment rule that copies the item number.
The same works fine if the item number is user defined, NOT function generated.
Sometimes the UDA gets a blank value (NULL) and other times a random number like

NOTE: In the images below and/or the attached document, user details / company name / address / email / telephone number represent a fictitious sample (based upon made up data used in the Oracle Demo Vision instance).  Any similarity to actual persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental and not intended in any manner.

Steps

1. Setup:

a. Define a business rule that copies the item number to UDA.
b. Setup an ICC with function generated item number.

2. Create the item via Excel Import.
3. The function generation creates the item number.
4. The UDA does NOT get populated. It is blank (or some value like $$FG-1234).

What is working
Works fine if manually key in the item # while creating the item.
The UDA gets populated if update the UDA to some other value after the item was already created.
