How to Accept Downloaded Contract Tracked Changes in MS Word Prior to Upload

In the Buyer Work Center, the contract terms attached to a Purchasing document can be downloaded to MS Word 2007. The user can make changes to the downloaded xml document in MS Word and then upload the document again to the application. But before a downloaded contract can be uploaded back, it's necessary to accept all the changes made in the downloaded document. Otherwise the following error is received when trying to upload:
"File xxxxxx.xml contains tracked changes. Please accept or reject changes before uploading."
But when the downloaded document is opened in MS Word, the Track Changes and Accept/Reject buttons are not enabled.
How can the Track Changes functionality be enabled in MS Word 2007 for a downloaded contract XML document so that changes made can be accepted?
