Customer Item Cross Reference Is Not Working

Unable to add sales order lines using Customer Item Number.
When adding order line, select Item Identifier type 'Customer Item Number' and LOV for item returns no values.
Have confirmed set up for item, customer item and cross reference.

Select Item identifier type 'Customer Item Number'
Query Item number field
No results returned - however customer has several items defined and cross referenced
Expected behaviour would be the Customer Item Number recogniced as a customer item number and linked to the inventory item number without specifying Item Identifer Type.
