11i Error Sending Process Failed: No Address To Send When Emailing Adjustment Confirmation

Information in this document applies to any platform.
Attempting to deliver an adjustment confirmation letter via email and receive the following error:
Sending process failed: no address to send.
Manually entering email address - system profile option set to Manual.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create a customer contact with a valid email.
Responsibility: Receivables Manager
Navigation: Customers > Custoemrs
2. Set the following profile to Automatic:
Responsibility: System Administrator
Navigation: Profiles > System > Query profile IEX: Send Correspondence Automatically
3. Create an adjustment for that customer
Responsibility: Collections Agent
Navigation: Collections > Transactions Tab > Adjustment Processing
The IEXXMLGEN form is kicked off automatically and the email is sent.
4. Set the same profle IEX: Send Correspondence Automatically = Manual
5. Create an adjustment at the same level, for the same customer.
The correspondence window pops up.
Manually enter the email address.
The following error pops up:
Sending process failed: no address to send
