UPK: Unable To Create Knowledge Center Link To Active Directory with Windows Authentication

Installed the Client/Server edition of UPK 220.127.116.11 with Knowledge Center and selected Windows Authentication.
End Users created manually in the Knowledge Center are authenticated and can access published content without problems.
Users who are not created manually receive an error message when they access the Knowledge Center website.
The error encountered within Active Directory is:
Connection to data source failed!
A referral was returned from the server.
