UPK: Object Reference Not set to an Instance of an Object OR OdDev.exe - Assert Failure Messages (Doc ID 1553157.1)

Symptoms

UPK 11.1.0, WIN8, .NET 4.5.

When launching the UPK Developer, the following error occurs:

"Object Reference not set to an instance of an object. Developer encountered a critical error and must be restarted.
Exiting will close the application. If possible, Developer will save your work."

System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

ODDEV.log - located at c:\users\<windows>\appdata\local\UPDEV7 or SUPDEV7 displays error message that includes:DevExpress.XtraBars.Painters.ControlFormPainter.DrawCaption(GraphicsInfoArgs e, ControlFormViewInfo vi) in

 

OR

Object Reference not set to an instance of an object.


Developer encountered a critical error and must be restarted. Exiting will close the application.
If possible, Developer will ask to save your work.
