Instance not Updated with Latest Sales Order Number

Information in this document applies to any platform.
Child instance is not updated with last sales order number. An internal sales order number is referenced instead, which is not last one. Rest of the instance data is fine.
The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
(R): Order Management
(N): Sales Order
Create a sales order to ship serial to external customer
Ship the item
Query the serial in Install Base
On the General Details page an internal sales order will be referenced instead of last order number.
