Last updated on JULY 15, 2024

Applies to:

Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Unable to re-use serials when item is shipped from an Organization where the item is serial controlled at Sales order issue (OR) item is serial tagged to a different Organization with the same setup.

Error
"Serial Number &TOKEN is Defined in a Different Organization"

Use case for Item Serial controlled at Sales order issue:
1. Shipping > Transactions > Perform Sales order ship confirm > Ship serial number "12345" from ORG1.
2. Perform RMA in ORG1 for serial number "12345"
3. Transfer material from Org1 to Org2 on Inter org transfer and receive at destination org.
4. Now , try to ship the same serial "12345'" from ORG2 where the item is again serial controlled "At sales order issue".
5. See error - "Serial Number & TOKEN Is Defined In A Different Organization"

Use case for Item with Serial tagging (At wip issue) :

1. Inventory > Items > Enable item as Serial Tagged items for WIP Issue
2. In Org A, Issued serial "12345" to a WIP Job as component
3. Perform WIP return > Enter the serial number "12345"
4. Transfer the serial tagged item from Org A to Org B (Item is serial tagged for WIP issue)
5. Org B > Perform WIP issue for Serial Number as 12345

In both the cases, material moves from source to destination, however, the serials are not moved as the Org transfer transaction does not use/ update the serials.
So, the serial is still tagged to the source organization. This is current behavior.
