Goal

This note explains how absence duration is calculated based on employee's work schedule.

To better understand how this functionality works, we will take the following example:

Schedule pattern
Monday 09:00 - 6 hours - Not available (Busy)
Tuesday 09:00 - 6 hours - Not available (Busy)
Wednesday 09:00 - 6 hours - Not available (Busy)
Thursday 09:00 - 6 hours - Not available (Busy)
Friday 09:00 - 6 hours - Not available (Busy)
Saturday 00:00 - 24 hours - Available
Sunday 00:00 - 24 hours - Available

Let's look at the following scenarios:

1. User takes an absence from Thursday till Tuesday(included).

You expect to see a duration of 24 Hours (being 4 days of 6 hours), but system displays a duration of 48 hours.

Why? Because absence duration is calculated on Available time and employee is available only on Saturday (24 hours) and Sunday (24 hours).

2. User takes an absence from Thursday till Friday(included).

You expect to see a duration of 12 Hours (being 2 days of 6 hours), but system displays a duration of 0 hours.

Why? Because absence duration is calculated on Available time and employee is not available from Monday till Friday.
