Symptoms

In R12.1.3:

Attempting to create a "Party" and "Account" in Oracle Customer Online (OCO).
The "Customer Type" flag is not getting populated in the HZ_CUST_ACCOUNTS table.

Steps to Reproduce:
Responsibility:  Customers Online Data Librarian
Navigation:  Home > Customers Tab > Organization Subtab
-Click on the Create button to create a Party
-Add Below Details
  Organization Name: Customer_Type_Organization
  Address Line1: 100 Main Street
  City: San Antonio
  County: Bexar
  Postal Code 78249
  State : TX
-Once Party is created Click on “Update” button then click on 'Accounts' and click on 'Create Account'
-Once the account is created, notice the Account Type - it is defaulted to “External”.
-However, when running the query below, “Account Type”field still shows 'Null':

  PARTY_NAME           ACCOUNT_NUMBER      CUSTOMER_TYPE            CREATION_DATE
  ---------------          ---------------------      -------------------            ------------------=
  OCO Customer       1000                         (null)                              09-DEC-13

WORKAROUND:
Responsibility:  Receivables
Navigation:  Customers > Customers > Query Customer
Change the Customer Type from "External" > back to "Internal" > back to "External" to save the type at the database level.
