New Item Request (NIR) Link In Notification Generates Null Pointer Exception

Information in this document applies to any platform.
When using the link in notification/email, with no browser open,
after approval of a NIR (New Item Request) (this can also happen within the Development Manager responsibility),
you are asked to select a responsibility and are then taken to the NIR where you can see the status.
If you do something such as click on "Go" button then the following error appears:
1. Go to Development Manager
2. Navigate to: Setup > Setup Workbench
3. Select and open the Item Catalog Category (ICC)
4. Click on "Go" on page showing NIR
5. Get Error Page.
