Error: Attribute Status in Opportunity EO is Required When Converting Lead to Opportunity (Doc ID 1681269.1)

When the customer tries to convert a Lead to an Opportunity, the following error occurs:

Attribute Status in Opportunity EO is required.

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

Responsibility: Sales User
Navigation: Select a lead from the Sales Dashboard, Click on 'Convert Opportunity' button.

Receive the error.
