MFS (Multi-Platform) issue: Initial Sync stuck at 'Launch Application' page

Information in this document applies to any platform.
After installing a new Multi Platform client, sometimes the initial sync will be stuck at the 'Launching Application' page and getting the following message
'Please wait while we contact server to get offline mobile data. This may take a few minutes:'
It may take hours and will never pass that.
What could be the possible solution for this issue?
