Original Start Date for plan is not retained when changing the plan option for the Loss of Dependent Eligibility life event.
When a dependent child is no longer eligible for benefits coverage, a 'Loss of Dependent Eligibility' life event is processed. Depending on the number of dependents that are still left to be covered, an option change could be required after the life event is processed.
Because of option dependent criteria and designation requirements being checked, the participant may no longer be eligible for a + One, + Child or + Family option.
For example, the participants only eligible employee was the child currently being found ineligible. Using Family Member Code "Check Designation Requirements" and with a +1 or +Child option requiring at least 1 eligible child contact, the participant would not be found eligible for this option when the dependent is found ineligible. Therefore, they will be de-enrolled.
So, when an option change automatically occurs, the Original Start Date for the plan is not retained. It is replaced with the new Coverage Start Date.
This only happens for the 'Loss of Dependent Eligibility' life event. For other life events were an option is changed and a dependent is uncovered, such as "Spouse Gains Other Coverage" the system retains the Original Start Date of the plan.
