Create Assets from Inventory Is Rejecting Assets Whose Description Is Greater Than 80 Characters (Doc ID 2072862.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 03, 2019

Applies to:

Oracle Assets - Version 12.1.3 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

Oracle Asset has an asset description limitation of 80 characters

fa_additions_tl' table has description columns which is VARCHAR2(80)-
desc fa_additions_tl
Name Null Type
----------------- -------- ------------
ASSET_ID NOT NULL NUMBER(15)
LANGUAGE NOT NULL VARCHAR2(4)
SOURCE_LANG NOT NULL VARCHAR2(4)
DESCRIPTION VARCHAR2(80)
LAST_UPDATE_DATE NOT NULL DATE
LAST_UPDATED_BY NOT NULL NUMBER(15)
CREATED_BY NUMBER(15)
CREATION_DATE DATE
LAST_UPDATE_LOGIN NUMBER(15)

But interfacing from Inventory via Install base master table (mtl_systemP_items_b) allows 240 characters thus we end up defining items whose desc is more than 80 characters.

Consequently at Create Assets the description causes failure:

Transactions :-
  Total : 2
  Processed : 0
  Failed : 2

csi_transaction_id error_text
------------------ ----------
46547556 You have encountered an unexpected error: CSE_ASSET_UTIL_PKG.asset_description,
46663706 You have encountered an unexpected error: CSE_ASSET_UTIL_PKG.asset_description,
