Associating Parent Asst to a Child Asset Throws Error (Doc ID 2086238.1)

Symptoms

ACTUAL BEHAVIOR

When trying to associate a parent asset to a child asset, there are two types of error seen depending on the method used :

METHOD 1 : ERROR: (Error shown in red but no error description)

METHOD 2 : ERROR

You have encountered an unexpected error. Please contact your System Administrator for assistance.

Exception Details:
--------------------------
oracle.apps.fnd.framework.OAException: java.lang.NullPointerException
at oracle.apps.fnd.framework.OAException.wrapperException(OAException.java:912)
at oracle.apps.fnd.framework.webui.OAWebBeanHelper.processRequest(OAWebBeanHelper.java:647)


EXPECTED BEHAVIOR

Expect that the parent can be associated to the child without any errors. When doing the test in Vision, the second method works fine and only the first error is seen.


STEPS

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

METHOD 1: (Configuration history from asset hierarchy page)
-----------------
1. Responsibility: Maintenance Super User
2. Navigate to Asset > Capital
3. Search for Asset
4. Select Asset
5. Choose Hierarchy in drop down
6. Select go
7. Choose Configuration History in drop down and click go
8. Click the Parent Radio button and click GO
9. Click the Associate Parent Button
10. Fill out information
11. Click Apply and receive error shown in Method 1 error above.


METHOD 2: (Configuration History via Asset Summary page)

1. Responsibility: Maintenance Super User
2. Navigate to Asset > Capital
3. Search for Asset
4. Select Asset
5. Choose Configuration History in drop down
6. Select go
7. Click the Parent Radio button and click GO
8. Click the Associate Parent Button
9. Fill out information
10. Click Apply and receive error in Method 2 Error above.
