UPK: Developer Windows Authentication Has Stopped Working

When launching the UPK client, the profile begins to load with the typical "Loading Library message", but is then followed by a Windows Login screen which should not appear for Windows Authentication. This Windows Login dialog contains the user's Domain\Username and is grayed out. Any password entered into this dialog appears to fail, resulting in the following error:
invalid username and password.
