The column ALTERNATE_BOM_DESIGNATOR and ALTERNATE_ROUTING_DESIGNATOR in tables like WIP_DISCRETE_JOBS / BOM_ALTERNATE_DESIGNATORS / BOM_OPERATIONAL_ROUTINGS / BOM_BILL_OF_MATERIALS are VARCHAR2(10) and it is too short to store the string.
ALTERNATE_BOM_DESIGNATOR is generally used in BOM.It means an alternate product BOM.
Actually this designator means a product item.
Probably item number is the best choice.
So the Problem is, the column's size is only varchar2(10), and segment1 in MTL_SYSTEM_ITEMS_B is varcahr2(40).
If we choose to use the 10 char code then we will not know which product it means in BOM.
