Enablement Service Pack 3 (188.8.131.52) cannot be applied to Knowledge Center

When trying to apply the 12.1.0 Enablement Service Pack 3 (184.108.40.206) for Knowledge Center, after selecting the 220.127.116.11 installation directory, an error message is shown:
"ADO SQL object could not connect to the specified source. Error: Login failed for user 'EMPTY'"
"ADO SQL object could not connect to the specified source. Error: null password given; login denied"
Followed by a message the the ESP must be applied to an installation of 18.104.22.168 or higher. Installation cannot continue at this point.
