R12: Control Items Automatic Numbering Does Not Work When Copying From Another Change Control Item (Doc ID 2200376.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 28, 2019

Applies to:

Oracle Project Planning and Control - Version 12.1.3 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

When Creating a change control Item (Issue, Change Request, Change Order) by copying from another Change Control Item. The Number of the new item is not generated (number is
the prefix alone example `ABC-`without digit'). Note that the Numbering method is Automatic with Prefix.

Setup Control Item Type with Numbering = Automatic. And with Prefix for Automatic Numbering = ABC-

Create a new Issue without copying from another Issue. The number is generated :

Ie Number = ABC-8.

This is correct.

However, if you create a new issue by copying an existing issue, the automatic number is not created.

The number for the new issue is ABC- (number part is missing). Even if you change the status to working, the number is not updated.
There is no way to update the number.

If you create more than one issue by copying you end up with the same number over and over,

Would expect the automatic numbering to work the same when copying as it does when creating a new change control item.

Confusing to Users as the copy more than once, they will get two control item with the same Number (THE PREFIX ONLY).
