While Defining A Employee, Its Giving Error That 'You Must Specify A Valid Gender For A New Employee

While defining a employee, it is giving an error: 'You must specify a valid gender for a new employee."
The business does not wish use the gender field so, want this field to be optional.
Even when we select the gender as 'Unknown' which is from the LoV , this error is still received.
APP-Pay-06815 You must specify a valid gender for a new employee.
The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
1. CA HR Manager > People > Enter and Maintain
2. Fill in the fields to enter an employee but leave gender as default
3. Save and receive the error.
