Use Special Characters Chr(30 Chr(29) In 2D Barcode Generates PDF As ? (Doc ID 2393933.1)

Last updated on AUGUST 18, 2022

Applies to:

BI Publisher (formerly XML Publisher) - Version 5.6.3 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

in EBS 12.1.3 (XDO 5.6.3)

1. A custom concurrent program, setup for BI Publisher, generates a data element in the XML data set with ascii control separators:
- chr(30) as ascii_record_separator
- chr(29) as ascii_group_separator

2. The purpose of that data element is for a 2D barcode generation.

3a. Trying to open this xml file in a browser (which is a test for technically valid XML) fails for that data element (CF_ID_CODE).

3b. Trying to load this xml data set in the RTF template causes an error to popup:
",hexidecimal value 0x1E, is an invalid character, Line 54, position 25

4a. When those ascii control separators are removed from the concurrent program then the XML data set opens cleanly in the browser.

4b. This XML data set loads cleanly in the RTF template and allows the FO Processor to run.
