INV_CHILD_VIOLATION_ERROR for item update in API/Interface after upgrade from 12.2.3 to 12.2.6

Updating master level item attributes using API/Interface causes the child error with the following generic error message
"Changing Master Controlled attributes of this Master Item has caused validation errors in the Child Item.
