How To Add Serial Number In Depot Repair In New IB Instance Created W/"Add To IB" (Doc ID 2476132.1)

Last updated on DECEMBER 05, 2019

Applies to:

Oracle Depot Repair - Version 12.2.3 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

If an IB instance is created w/o serial - can you add the serial number in Depot and have it show the IB instance?

When the item is IB trackable, but no serial number is entered on the return line and user selects 'Add to IB', an Installed Base instance is created but without a serial number

The following steps is what cust did to TRY to add a serial after instance is created using 'Add to IB' functionality in DR.-
1. In Depot, entered serial number XXXXXXX. (added the serial number on the receiving screen after Depot order is created:
Depot Logistics tab > Choose return line check box and drop down receive > process button
2. receipt form launches, enter Serial Number XXXXXXX, etc. > Save)
3. Then Caution pop-up window displays with: "There is no instance found for the serial number (XXXXXXX)"
When he adds the serial number in Depot as described above , it will not link to the IB instance,

Documentation below says using Add to IB, will always create an IB instance without a serial number. So customer would like to add the serial number from Depot Repair right after the new IB instance is created.

When creating a Repair Order line without specifying an Instance for an Installed Base trackable item, or without specifying a Serial Number for a serialized item with a quantity of 1, a message window appears asking what the user wants to do when the repair order is created.
Here you can either click 'Add to IB' to add an item instance to Installed Base, or you can click 'Save As Is' to create the Repair Order without creating an IB instance.

When the item is IB trackable, but no serial number is entered on the return line and user selects 'Add to IB', an Installed Base instance will be created but without a serial number - for serialized items that results in an instance without serial number where one would be expected
