Receive Error "You have encountered an unexpected error" When Attempting to Access the Manufacturing or Service Organizational Attributes For an Item (Doc ID 2540844.1)

Symptoms

After upgrading to 12.2.8, when trying to view the Manufacturing or Service organization attributes for an item the following errors are encountered:
 
ERROR

You have encountered an unexpected error. Please contact your System Administrator for assistance.


Clicking the "Click here for exception details" link shows the following additional detail

java.lang.ClassCastException: oracle.apps.fnd.framework.webui.beans.message.OAMessageTextInputBean cannot be cast to oracle.apps.fnd.framework.webui.beans.message.OAMessageChoiceBean

STEPS

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

  1. Navigate: Development Manager  Item Catalog > Item Simple Search
  2. Search for an item and open its item page.
  3. Click to open either of the following links to view the operational attributes in that section:
        Service
        Manufacturing
  4. The error message is displayed
  5. Click the "Click here for exception details" link to see the exception details.
