RXARINVR RXi Transaction Register Request Errors With APP-FND-00500 And No Output Is Produced

RXARINVR - RX-only: Transaction Register
When running the RXi Transaction Register report, the view requests screen shows the request in yellow with a warning and no output is produced.
The log file shows the following error :-
APP-FND-00500: AFPPRN received a return code of failure from the OSD routine FDUPRN
Cannot read file <DIRECTORY>
Check if the file exists
Contact your system administrator to create the file
Check if you have read privileges on the directory and on the file
Review your concurrent request log file for more detailed information
The warning basically means that output has been selected to be printed but there is no output file created to print.
There are two phases in Transaction Register.
The first phase is RX-only and runs RXARINVR. This is spawned from the original request.
It extracts data from AR tables, and inserts records to be output to the interface table.
This outputs nothing. It does not generate an output file.
The second phase is the original request and it runs ARRXINVR, which is paused while executing the first phase. It generates the report using the data in interface table.
Setting the profile option 'Concurrent: Report Copies to '0' does not resolve the problem.
