How Can We Change The Order Date Type After Line Creation? (Doc ID 2640703.1)

When we copy an existing to a new order, we frequently need to change the order date type on the new order.   When attempting to change the order_date_type on the order header, from the Sales Orders form,  for an order in ENTERED status, the following error occurs.

 Update Not Allowed, Line Exists for this Order

Q1:   Why does this happen?

Q2:  Can we use a customized procedure to change the date type outside of the eBusiness Suite application?
