EAM Timecard Error - Work Order 'X' Is Not Based On Asset Number 'Y'. Please Reenter Correct Values.

Symptoms
When submitting OTL EAM Timecard, the following error occurs.
After this error, if the auto-populated Asset number value is made blank and the timecard is submitted the error does not occur and users are are able to successfully submit the timecard.
Please note that from OTL Time entry standpoint this Asset Number is not required at all from business perspective, thus it will be even helpful if this field can be removed from the layout as well.
ERROR
Work order 'X' is not based on asset number 'Y'. Please reenter correct values.
STEPS
The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
1. OTL EAM Timecard.
2. Asset Number is auto populated as soon as the workorder is selected in the timecard.
3. Submit timecard and receive the above error.
