Not Able To Update Parent Asset Number After Performing Asset Transfer/Move

Information in this document applies to any platform.
After performing asset move (inter-org transfer), the asset was queried in the destination org.
The parent asset number was reflecting previous/source location.
Switched responsibility to Maintenance User and tried to end date the parent. This resulted in the following error.
A valid Asset Number may not have been entered. Click on the flashlight to do a search for the asset number.
The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
1. Perform Asset Move (inter-org transfer).
2. Query the transferred asset in the destination organization.
3. Try to end date the parent asset.
4. The above error occurs.
