Item Import Fails To Import Some Items With Error "&ITEM_NUMBER is an invalid value for Item Number based on System Item key flexfield segment(s) setup. Please provide a valid value for Item Number." (Doc ID 2739897.1)

Symptoms

Items are being imported.  Some items import successfully while others are failing.
The concurrent request log shows the following message where &ITEM_NUMBER is replaced by the item's name.

&ITEM_NUMBER is an invalid value for Item Number based on System Item key flexfield segment(s) setup. Please provide a valid value for Item Number.


I am importing items.
If item number is all characters, it fails.
If item number is alphanumeric or numeric. it imports the item without any issue.

Steps

  1. Populate MTL_SYSTEM_ITEMS_INTERFACE and populate either the ITEM_NUMBER or the appropriate SEGMENT* columns with the item's name.
  2. Launch the Item Open Interface
  3. Review the concurrent request log or MTL_INTERFACE_ERRORS table and see the error.
