All Of a Sudden BIP Reports Failing With Error "oracle.xdo.servlet.CreateException: java.io.IOException: Bad file descriptor" (Doc ID 2853763.1)

Symptoms

Suddenly receiving the following error message when running any report from BI Publisher. 

The report cannot be rendered because of an error, please contact the administrator.
Error Detail
oracle.xdo.servlet.CreateException: java.io.IOException: Bad file descriptor

In addition to this error, two of the custom reports have disappeared. The custom report menu folder still shows in BI Publisher, but the data source and report files are gone from under it. 


The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

1. Consider any working BI Publisher 12c environment

2. Under Catalog, try to run any report and make sure it is working

3. Apply any Operating System level patch

4. Try to run the same report after this OS patch installation

5. Receives the above mentioned error
Didn't rebooted the machine after OS patch installation, due to this, some issue at accessing the existing repository folders Or file system
