Financial Statement Generator Output Error: Excel cannot open the file 'FILENAME.xlsx' because the file format or file extension is not valid (Doc ID 2937482.1)

Symptoms

When attempting to open in Excel the Financial Statement Generator (FSG) output from either Report Manager or General Ledger modules, the following error shows in the output:

Excel cannot open the file 'FILENAME.xlsx' because the file format or file extension is not valid. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE - Report Manager responsibility
------------------------------------------------------------------

  1. Login to the application
  2. Navigate in page to Report Manager responsibility > Financial Report Submission
  3. Select the report and fill the parameters
  4. View Request > click on Output
  5. Select Excel output

 

The same error is received from General Ledger responsibility:

STEPS TO REPRODUCE - General Ledger responsibility
---------------------------------------------------------------

  1. Login to the application
  2. Navigate in form to General Ledger responsibility > Reports > Request > Standard
  3. Select the concurrent request 'Program - Publish FSG Report'
  4. Select the report and fill the parameters
  5. Run the concurrent request
  6. After the concurrent request is finished, click on View Output
