Symptoms

When trying to validate a P6 file retrieved online from HMRC (His Majesty's Revenue and Customs), the following error can be seen in the log file of the 'GB XML Data Upload' process.

ORACLE error 1858 in FDPSTP

Cause: FDPSTP failed due to ORA-01858: a non-numeric character was found where a numeric was expected
ORA-06512: at "APPS.PYUDET_DPS", line 4645



The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
1. Under UK HRMS Responsibility or equivalent.
2. Navigate to HMRC Transactions > Retrieve Files from HMRC.
3. Select Data Type = P6 > Click on Retrieve XML.
4. Go to Search tab > Select Data Type = P6 and click Go.
5. Select the above retrieved P6 file and click on 'Validate'.
6. Go to View > Requests > Select All My Requests and click on Find button > Notice the following two concurrent requests:
    6.1. GB XML Data Upload to Interface Tables > Observe it is completed with Status=Normal.
    6.2. GB XML Data Upload > Observe it ends with an error and the Log (click on View Log button) shows the above error.
