Custom Button in Oracle Configurator Renders Nullpointerexception After Upgrade to R12.2 (Doc ID 3016459.1)

Symptoms

After upgrading from R12.1.3 to R12.2.12, custom button is no longer working. User has a custom button where the button action is 'Add and Go to Instance'. When clicked it is expected to navigate to another model node. But as soon as the custom button is clicked, it ends with below error:

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
1. Order Management Super User responsibility
2. Navigate to Sales Order form
3. Query order number
4. Click Configurator button to open Configurator
5. Click custom button 'Add and Go to Instance'
