Can Contracts Created in OM Interface with the Category According to Item Type on the Item Setup? (Doc ID 3042648.1)

Goal

We sell warranties, extended warranties and service agreement contracts through order management.
The contract items for these contracts have the contract item type (mtl_system_items_b. CONTRACT_ITEM_TYPE_CODE) populated appropriately.

Can these contracts interface with the category according to the contract item type on the item setup. This would drive the contract numbering.
Is there any way to do this or do all contracts coming from OM really have to have the same category?
