Many customers are aware of how to reconfigure an E-Business 11i system using AutoConfig, however certain configuration changes are not reflected in the configuration files.
This is caused by new functionality delivered in ADX.E called the "Net Services Topology Model". The Net Services Topology Data Model stores the entire topological information about a single Oracle Application instance. The data model stores information about each node in the Oracle Applications instance which is then used to generate the Net Service configuration files (for example tnsnames.ora). AutoConfig seeds the data model with relevant data.
The Net Services Topology Data Model stores the following information:
- On the database tier: Hostname, Database SID, Database Name, Instance Name, TNS Descriptors.....
- On the application tier: Hostname, FNDFS and FNDSM alias descriptors.........
This functionality is causing confusion with customers who are trying to reconfigure their existing systems using AutoConfig. Changes such as hostname or Database port are not reflected in the configuration files after AutoConfig is run.
Examples such as : tnsnames.ora, listener.ora, or APPS_JDBC_URL still contain references to the old configuration or now contain both old and new configuration.
These problems occur because the "Tier" information needs to be removed and re-inserted in the Net Services Model.

The purpose of this document is to assist customers who have a requirement to make one or more of the following changes to their existing Oracle Applications instance:-
- Applications Host
To change the DB Host, or if the Applications and Database Tier are on the same machine, please refer to <Note:338003.1> How to change the hostname and/or port of the Database Tier using AutoConfig before following the steps in this note
Any other changes to the data stored in the Net Services Topology Data Model you should follow <Note:230672.1> Cloning Oracle Applications 11i with RapidClone.
