Scheduling Error: Invalid Line Type - Cannot Be Used For Sets Or Models

When attempting to book a sales order an error is encountered during scheduling of the lines.
The Workflow's Scheduling function returns "Incomplete" result.
Invalid line type. Line type X can be used only for independent standard lines. It cannot be used for sets or models.
The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
1. Create an order and enter a line.
2. Book the order or attempt to schedule the line.
3. Error message pops up.
A debug file shows a validation failure occurred in procedure OE_SCHEDULE_UTIL.VALIDATE_LINE.
The error code is: OE_SCH_INACTIVE_STD_ONLY
