After assigning the role 'Learning Administrator' with the description 'Learning Administrator' as per <note 343999.1> to a user, how does the user then access that role?

And also
1, What are the steps I am missing to access the Role as there is no explanation in the upgrade documentation for OTA.J?
2, Is a Role accessed in the same way as a responsibility?
3, At this site we do not want to use Role Based Access Control (RBAC) as no other modules do so - can we avoid this in the context of OLM?
