Default Sales Group Is 'Unassigned' for Salesperson on Service Contract

On Service Contracts, find that when entering the Salesperson name in the Vendor Contact field, the default Sales Group is 'Unassigned' even though the correct Sales Group has been defined in Resource manager and assigned to the resource defined as a salesperson. The correct Sales Group is available in the LOV, but 'Unassigned' is defaulted. The same issue occurs in the Sales Credit form.
The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
1. Import a Resource as a Salesperson and assign that Resource to a Group.
2. Author a Contract and enter this Resource as a Vendor Contact with the Role Salesperson.
